I'm very excited about the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. 5G will be a hot topic and so will NFV. In fact, I'm excited about so many aspects of MWC that I decided to make a list in alphabetical order: A is for ADVA Optical Networking, which is my new home after the acquisition of Overture. Together, we form the new NFV Powerhouse. B is for Barcelona, home of Mobile World Congress. Barcelona is a beautiful place with AMAZING food. There can be no question that 2012 was a bumper year for healthcare IT. The sheer volume and size of investments was enormous. Fast-forward a few months and the pace doesn't seem to be slowing. In February alone, there were over 30 deals closed for a total of $107.95 million invested. This represents twice the deal volume of the same time last year.

Thousands of people descended upon Barcelona last week for this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC): a show that’s rapidly grown to represent the latest in mobile innovation. Looking back on a week of announcements, keynotes and briefings, it’s clear that the show can be divided into three specific areas: visions, realities and solutions. However, I’m starting to wonder if the distance between the vision and the reality is growing too quickly and if the solutions exist to bridge the gap.
