I know, the title sounds grandiose, doesn’t it? ‘My Life without Wi-Fi,’ and I also know it’s a first world problem, but I wanted to undertake an experiment of sorts. I wondered if I could survive at least three consecutive days without Wi-Fi – to be honest I had initially pondered a week’s withdrawal, but felt that such masochistic torture wasn’t necessary.

It's almost impossible to open a tech publication or even a mainstream publication and not find a discussion about the continued fierce growth in mobile data and hyperbole on the consequences. Only this weekend the FT featured a discussion on the U.K.'s 'capacity crunch' and how networks will (or more to the point, won't) cope in 2030 when we're consuming 300 times more mobile data than today. I'm amazed that some people are already discussing the failure of networks that are eighteen years away.

Steve Jobs recent iTunes 10 announcement provided a number of clear signposts as to the future of Apple’s music and video services. As with many other multi-media content providers, this future is marked with one word: cloud. Since this announcement, I’ve been considering what the implications of this migration are and the impact it will have both from a professional and personal standpoint. In fact, I went a step further than considering and actually tried to live within the cloud for a weekend. I have to confess, living in this bubble proved harder than I thought.
